Forensics

Students in grades 6th through 8th have the option to participate in Forensics.  St. Alphonsus Catholic School is a member of the Middle Level Forensics Association (MLFA), the premier middle school forensics organization in Wisconsin. Each year members of the team attend five meets in the area.  If the cumulative scores are high enough, they also attend the state meet in a central location.

St. Alphonsus Catholic School's program has seen individual and team success over the past decade.  Aside from the numerous trophies garnered at the meets, roughly 90% of the team qualifies for the state meet each year (about 67-75% is the normal range).

Perhaps the most significant aspect of the program is the way it pushes all members, regardless of external awards, to be more dynamic and confident speakers.  Many graduates have parlayed forensics experience into drama programs in high school; at the very least, students who participate in forensics speak of being more comfortable when they are required to perform for school projects and the like.

The forensics program at St. Alphonsus Catholic School is open to anyone who wants to improve his/her public speaking skills.  Many adults list public speaking as a top fear; forensics alumni have no fear.
