Art
Our robust art program provides students with the knowledge of art history and the elements of hands-on design through a variety of projects using various media and materials in the St. Alphonsus Art Studio. Students are encouraged to incorporate studio habits of mind so they have a better understanding of how an artist behaves. This helps students see themselves as artists who are capable of creating authentic work. We display student art pieces throughout the school and also showcase them on our school's art program Instagram page and via Artsonia, an online personal gallery for each student.
Physical Education (PE)
Our PE program provides students with a variety of activities that contribute to their physical well-being. Students participate in developmentally appropriate activities that support the acquisition of sport and game concepts, coordination, motor skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
Spanish
All students from grades 5K through 8th grade receive Spanish instruction at St. Alphonsus. Students receive instruction twice per week for 30-45 minutes, with class times varying based on their age. Students develop a foundation of vocabulary and grammar while working on reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. These skills are obtained through a variety of different activities that include books, music, projects and presentations in Spanish. In addition, students learn about and celebrate the cultures and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries.
Music
We offer a comprehensive music program for all students in grades 4K through 8th grade. General music classes meet weekly, and option band & orchestra programs are also offered. Early elementary students focus on exploration and creation of music through children's songs, movement, and use of classroom instruments. 4th grade students learn the recorder. Older students continue to develop their performing skills with ukuleles. They make musical connections to a variety of topics, such as music around the world and music in film.
